You can just about smell the oil lamps burning on the streets or the low tide blowing in from the North Sea. The narrative---Tommy's story is a great story and a great story told extremely well by the author!-- will be interesting to anyone who enjoys historical biography. Many of the pieces are of relatively recent vintage (in case you were looking for material from the 1930s and 1940s).
